Relationships with commercial entities, as defined by ACCME (a commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients) will be disclosed online and printed in the 2014 Meeting Program Book. This regulation is narrow in scope, however, it includes spousal relationships. For example, a trademarked procedure is not a commercial interest as defined by ACCME. Hospitals and surgery centers that offer these procedures are not commercial interests. An individual who does a procedure is a provider of clinical services to patients, not an ACCME-defined commercial interest. Consulting or ownership relationships in practice management/marketing, and social media/Internet are examples of non-commercial relationships and are not printed in the disclosure list. Additionally, the Society’s disclosure list does not include any CV items such as volunteer positions, relationships with publishers or titles of textbooks. However, the faculty oftentimes discloses these relationships to the Society and they may include these items on their first slide.
