Americans Well Represented in the World of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

New York, NY (February 20, 2008) – American plastic surgeon Foad Nahai, MD, is the new President of the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). The election of new officers was on February 11, during ISAPS' 19th Biennial Congress in Melbourne, Australia, which was attended by plastic surgeons from around the world. Dr. Nahai has been a member of ISAPS since 1992 and has served as the Secretary General and First and Second Vice President.

Currently in private aesthetic surgery practice in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Nahai is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Emory University. He has been a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) since 1989. Currently ASAPS’ President, he also serves as the Chair of ASAPS’ Breast Surgery Immediate-Response Committee, and has served as the Program Chair, Education Commissioner, and as a member of the Judicial Council. He has served as the Associate Editor of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal since 2006. Dr. Nahai was elected to the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is currently a member of numerous medical societies, including the Georgia Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Nahai has been an Aesthetic Society traveling professor at many universities worldwide and has been the author of more than 135 scientific publications.

Dr. Nahai was elected by a unanimous vote during the membership meeting in Melbourne. The term for Dr. Nahai’s ISAPS presidency is from February 2008 through the next ISAPS Biennial Congress in San Francisco, CA in August 20l0. In accepting this position, Dr. Nahai noted, “During my coinciding presidencies, February through May 2008, I have asked the President-elect of ISAPS, Dr. Jan Poëll of Switzerland to serve as acting President of ISAPS, allowing me to focus fully on the remaining months of my ASAPS duties.”

Two other American plastic surgeons were also distinguished during the Biennial Congress in Melbourne. Salt Lake City, UT, plastic surgeon and vice president of ASAPS, Renato Saltz, MD, was appointed to the ISAPS board as the Chair of the Education Council. As Chair of the Education Council, Saltz will oversee ISAPS worldwide efforts in continuing education for its membership and will direct the program chair for the 20th ISAPS Congress, slated for San Francisco in August 2010. Dr. Saltz has served as the Secretary General of ISAPS for the past three and a half years. Aesthetic plastic surgeon, Thomas S. Davis, MD, from Hershey, PA, was appointed Parlimentarian of ISAPS.
