Membership:
Approximately 1950 members in all categories. Plastic surgeons are
elected to membership. Active Members practice in U.S. and Canada.
Candidates: Approximately 1200 additional plastic surgeons are currently
enrolled in the ASAPS Candidate Program or the International
Candidate Program. These surgeons have not yet been elected to
membership.
Requirements:

For
election to Active Membership, a plastic surgeon must:

  • Be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada;
  • Be in at least the third year of active practice following board
    certification;

  • Meet specified requirements for accredited cosmetic surgery
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME);
  • Meet specified requirements for documented cosmetic surgery
    cases performed during a 12-month period and covering a wide
    range of procedures;
  • Meet requirements operating in an accredited surgical facility;
  • Be sponsored by two ASAPS members;
  • Submit current marketing/advertising materials, if any, for
    review; and
  • Adhere to current ethical standards for professional conduct.

ASAPS

  • To
    advance the science and art of aesthetic plastic surgery among
    qualified plastic surgeons through medical education and research;
  • To
    promote ethical conduct and responsible patient care;
  • To
    serve the public by providing accurate and timely information on
    aesthetic plastic surgery; and
  • To
    advance the medical profession and plastic surgery specialty.
