Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon is New President of American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
New York, NY ( April 18, 2004 )— Los Angeles plastic surgeon Peter B. Fodor, MD, is the new President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). ASAPS, with nearly 2,200 members, is the leading national organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery of the face and body. The election of new officers was on April 18, during the ASAPS 2004 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, which was attended by plastic surgeons from around the world.
Dr. Fodor is Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. He has been an ASAPS member since 1985, serving on the Board as President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large. He is Past President of the Lipoplasty Society of North America (LSNA), which amalgamated with ASAPS in 2000, and is on the Board of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons.
According to ASAPS statistics, nearly 8.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2003, up 20 percent from 2002. ASAPS members performed more cosmetic surgical procedures per doctor than any other group of specialists. “ASAPS has been the leader in aesthetic surgery education for plastic surgeons for more than 35 years,” says Dr. Fodor. “Today, our mission also includes educating the public. Cosmetic surgery can make a positive difference in peoples' lives, but they need to be well informed about their choices.”
Other new ASAPS officers on the Executive Committee are:
President-Elect: Mark L. Jewell, MD, of Eugene, OR . Dr. Jewell is Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University . An ASAPS member since 1992, he has served as Vice President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Member at Large on the ASAPS Board of Directors. He was Chair of the ASAPS Communications Commission from 1997 to 2002, overseeing all public education activities. He is an Associate Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, ASAPS' peer-reviewed clinical publication.
Vice-President: James M. Stuzin, MD, of Miami, FL. Dr. Stuzin is Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. An ASAPS member since 1993, he has served as Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee. Dr. Stuzin is the current Chair of the ASAPS Education Commission, which is responsible for development of all ASAPS-accredited continuing medical education (CME). He is a Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
Treasurer: Alan Gold, MD, of Great Neck, NY. Dr. Gold is in private practice and holds an academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. An ASAPS member since 1985, he has served as Historian, Parliamentarian, and Chair of the Administrative Commission. He has also been Vice Chair of the ASAPS Communications Commission and Chair of the Public Education Committee. Dr. Gold serves on the Boards of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) and the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). He is an Associate Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal
Secretary: Foad Nahai, MD, of Atlanta, GA. An ASAPS member since 1989, Dr. Nahai has served on the Board of Directors since 1999. He is Vice Chair of the ASAPS Education Commission and Program Committee. He is an Associate Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal . Dr. Nahai currently serves as a Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is the Secretary General of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
