Meeting 2000: World's Top Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Hold Scientific Meeting in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Lake Buena Vista, FL (May 3, 2000) — Tissue glue for sealing incisions in facial aesthetic surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed healing after a facelift, tissue engineering, 3-D imaging of the breast -- these are among the innovative topics being presented by the world's leading plastic surgeons at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), May 12-17, in Lake Buena Vista.

Some of the research is only in the early stages of development, but the ASAPS meeting traditionally is where the most promising new techniques and technology in cosmetic surgery are unveiled. Not only do hundreds of plastic surgeons from around the globe come to hear papers and receive instruction from the acknowledged leaders in the field, but exhibitors ranging from surgical instrument and laser manufacturers to cosmetic companies are also on hand to showcase their latest products.

Unlike some organizations that provide instructional courses in cosmetic surgery for just about anyone, regardless of training, the ASAPS meeting is designed for surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) or its foreign equivalent.

"Our meeting is developed for board-certified plastic surgeons who have wide experience in performing all types of cosmetic plastic surgery," says Franklin L. DiSpaltro, MD, Co-Chair of the ASAPS Scientific Program. "When we provide instruction in a new technique, those attending the course already have the necessary surgical training and clinical expertise to be able to safely incorporate these newer techniques into their practices."

In addition to teaching courses and exhibits, the five-day Scientific Program includes panels of noted experts discussing clinical topics such as facial aesthetic surgery, lipoplasty (liposuction) safety, breast implants, lasers and medically directed skin care.
