Miami Plastic Surgeon is New President
Aesthetic Society Elects Top Officers at 2006 Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL
ORLANDO, FL (April 23, 2006)—Miami plastic surgeon James M. Stuzin, MD, is the new President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The Aesthetic Society, with nearly 2,300 members, is the leading national organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery of the face and body. The election of new officers was on April 23, during the ASAPS 2006 Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, which was attended by plastic surgeons from around the world.
In addition to his private practice in Miami, Dr. Stuzin is Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery (Voluntary) at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine and is an attending physician at Mercy Hospital in Miami.
Dr. Stuzin received his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He served his internship and general surgery residency at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals in Seattle. He completed a plastic surgery residency at New York University Hospital in New York City, followed by two fellowships in craniofacial surgery at the University of Miami Hospital and UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles. He was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1989. Dr. Stuzin is the Co-Editor of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
“With the proliferation of plastic surgery stories in the media, public education in plastic surgery is now more important than ever,” said Dr. Stuzin. “Over the next year, and through the foreseeable future, the Aesthetic Society will continue its ongoing effort to inform the public about the benefits and serious nature of plastic surgery, as well as the overwhelming advantages in seeking a board-certified plastic surgeon.” Dr. Stuzin is known internationally for his teaching, writing and as a strong proponent of peer reviewed scientific research. He specializes in facial aesthetic surgery.
Other new Aesthetic Society officers on the Executive Committee are:
President-Elect: Foad Nahai, MD, of Atlanta, GA. An ASAPS member since 1989, Dr. Nahai is a plastic surgeon at Paces Plastic Surgery and Recovery Center. He is currently serving as Chair of the Aesthetic Society’s Education Commission, Program Committee, and ASAPS/ASPS/PSEF/Co-Sponsored Symposium Committee. Dr. Nahai currently serves as a Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is the Second Vice-President of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a Clinical Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Vice-President: Alan Gold, MD, of Great Neck, NY. An Aesthetic Society member since 1985, Dr. Gold is in private practice and holds an academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is currently serving as Chair of the Legislation Committee. Dr. Gold is also President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) and Vice President of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). He is a Clinical Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Treasurer: V. Leroy Young, MD, of St. Louis, MO. An ASAPS Member since 1990, Dr. Young is a plastic surgeon at Body Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Skin Care Center, and Chief of Surgical Services at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. He is currently serving as Chair of the Non-Surgical Procedures and Breast Surgery Immediate Response Committees. Dr. Young is also President-Elect of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF). He is the Associate Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Secretary: Renato Saltz, MD, of Salt Lake City, UT. An Aesthetic Society Member since 1995, Dr. Saltz is a plastic surgeon affiliated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and an adjunct professor at the University of Utah School Of Medicine. He is a traveling professor for the Aesthetic Society. Dr. Saltz is also the Founder and President of the Image Reborn Foundation of Utah, a retreat program for women with breast cancer. He is a Clinical Editor of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
