Salt Lake City Plastic Surgeon Is New President of American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Aesthetic Society Elects Top Officers at 2009 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV
New York, NY (May 5, 2009)—Utah plastic surgeon Renato Saltz, MD, is the new President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The Aesthetic Society, with nearly 2,400 members, is the leading national organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery of the face and body. The election of new officers was held on May 5, during the ASAPS 2009 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV which was attended by plastic surgeons from around the world.
Dr. Saltz is a native of Brazil. He lives and practices in Salt Lake City and Park City, UT. He has been an Aesthetic Society Member since 1995. He is in private practice in Salt Lake City, UT and is the Former Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, University of Utah. Dr. Saltz is the former Chair of the Symposium and Candidate Liaison Committees, Residents’ Forum, and the International Symposium and serves on the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Task Force. He is a Co-Chair of the Cosmetic Medicine Task Force and a Former Clinical Editor of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He is the Education Council Chair and Immediate Past-General Secretary of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). Dr. Saltz has been a visiting professor at 13 academic centers in the United States and Abroad and has given over 350 presentations nationally and internationally. He has published over 100 papers, 31 chapters and edited 6 books in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Saltz is also the Founder and President of the Image Reborn Foundation of Utah, a retreat center for women recovering from breast cancer, now in its 10th year.
Dr. Saltz has been in practice for 19 years. He received his medical degree from Universidade Federal Rio Grande do Sul School of Medicine in Brazil and served his general surgery residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami. Dr. Saltz served a plastic surgery residency and fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham He was certified by The American Board of Surgery in 1989 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1992.

"Our primary mission is to enhance patient care through providing continuing medical education to qualified aesthetic plastic surgeons. President-Elect: Felmont F. Eaves, III, MD of Charlotte, NC. An Aesthetic Society Member since 1999, Dr. Eaves is a partner at Charlotte Plastic Surgery and an attending surgeon at Presbyterian Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, and Mercy Hospital. Dr. Eaves currently serves as a traveling professor, and a member of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Task Force. He is the Former Chair of the Finance & Investment and Patient Safety, and Public Education Committees, as well as the past Administration Commissioner. Dr. Eaves has twice been the recipient of the Aesthetic Society’s Simon Frederick’s Award for Best Meeting Panelist, additionally he is the past recipient of the Sherrell J. Aston Award for Best Presentation by a Candidate or Resident, and the Ted Lockwood Award for Excellence in Body Contouring.
Vice President: Jeffrey M. Kenkel, MD of Dallas, TX. An Aesthetic Society Member since 2001, Dr. Kenkel is a professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is Associate Editor of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and editor of Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Kenkel currently serves as the Secretary of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), and Chair of the Education Commission. He is also Chair of many of the Aesthetic Society’s committees including the Strategic Planning, Time & Place, Program, and ASAPS/ASPS Co-Sponsored Symposium Committees.
Treasurer: James A. Matas, MD of Orlando, FL. An Aesthetic Society Member since 1997, Dr. Matas is in private practice and is the former Chief-of-Staff of Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando. Dr. Matas currently serves as the Chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee. He is the Former Vice-Chair of the Communications Commission.
Secretary: Leo R. McCafferty, MD of Pittsburgh PA. An Aesthetic Society Member since 1993, Dr. McCafferty is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. He is in private practice and is a plastic surgery consultant to The Pittsburgh Steelers. Dr. McCafferty currently serves as Chair of the Administrative Commission, and is the Former Chair of the Bylaws and Public Education Committees. He also is the recipient of the Aesthetic Society’s Tiffany Award for Best Scientific Presentation.
