This comprehensive course, designed for the physician, nurse and aestheticians, provides participants a review and update of cosmetic medicine options focused on minimally invasive rejuvenation of the face and body. Treatment rationale and clinical applications for a variety of modalities will be covered including the use of skin care, photodynamic therapy, lasers, radiofrequency therapy, injection lipolysis, non-invasive ultrasound, injectable botulinum toxin type A and the variety of soft-tissue fillers available today. Live patient treatments are interspersed throughout the day to enhance the educational experience. Besides focusing on patient safety, the course will emphasize how these minimally invasive cosmetic options can have a positive economic impact on the plastic surgery practice. A panel discussion will review the business aspect of the plastic surgery practice covering issues such as investing in the right technology for your practice and how to determine break-even points.
Level: Comprehensive Organization: Didactic with live demonstrations

Objectives:

  1. During the aesthetic evaluation, identify potential deformities. Review technology options that can assist in the evaluation. Discuss the patient's goals and explain potential treatment options.
  2. Given the array of non-surgical technology and products that are available for skin tone, body appearance and shape; assess each option in order to design an effective treatment plan.
  3. During the pre-treatment consult, explain pain management options with the patient and make appropriate decisions based on the discussion.
  4. When using various technologies, describe step-by-step how to use the device to ensure patient safety while achieving optimal results.
  5. When injecting botulinum toxin, demonstrate knowledge of appropriate muscle(s) in order to achieve the desired result.
  6. When injecting dermal fillers, demonstrate knowledge of appropriate depth of injection and specific techniques in order to ensure optimal outcomes.
  7. Demonstrate emerging uses for dermal fillers.
  8. During minimally invasive rejuvenation procedures, describe the actions that can lead to adverse events/complications and categorize subsequent management.
