Fellowship in Aesthetic & Oncological Breast Surgery
Dynamic, multidisciplinary, community-based program designed to provide comprehensive training in all aspects of breast surgery – diagnostic, therapeutic, reconstructive, and cosmetic. The program has been developed by a group of breast surgeons and plastic surgeons, and is designed to combine the skills and expertise of both disciplines in a new approach which we call “aesthetic oncology” of the breast. Our goal is to train breast surgeons who are capable of providing the full spectrum of breast procedures from diagnosis and treatment of breast masses, reconstructive procedures, as well as aesthetic reduction/ augmentation procedures.
The fellowship program will include exposure to aspects of breast imaging, image-guided breast biopsies (X-ray/ultrasound / MRI localizations, stereotactic biopsies ), surgical options, the pre-operative coordination of the ancillary treatments i.e. nuclear medicine/sentinel node biopsy , reconstruction with a multidisciplinary faculty, and the patient’s post-operative options i.e. oncology/ radiation, and genetic counseling.
Emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary surgical planning and the principles of aesthetic oncology. A supervised fellow’s surgical practice can be developed for the enthusiastic candidate. The Fellow would be encouraged to submit a paper for publication and would participate in educational programs, observe office management and practice development.
The Institute of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery @ Northern Westchester Hospital is offering a 1 year fellowship, starting July 1, 2006, under the directorship of Philip C. Bonanno, M.D. Diverse cosmetic surgical exposure (facialplasty/ body contouring), as well as oncologic and reconstructive breast procedures/ post Moh’s reconstruction ; contact with an interdisciplinary Faculty. Independent fellow’s cosmetic surgical practice can be developed for the enthusiastic candidate. Opportunities for publication and participation in educational programs, and to observe office management and practice development.

This fellowship in existence since 1996 is designed to give the successful applicant broad exposure and experience in the full range of aesthetic plastic surgery including facial aesthetic surgery with endoscopic techniques, rhinoplasty, and secondary procedures; aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery (just the right mix of microsurgical breast and implant techniques); and body contouring. This aesthetic fellowship provides advanced teaching and extensive clinical experience in body contouring and cosmetic surgery and medicine at the Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh with opportunities to join Dr. Hurwitz in his clinics near Philadelphia, PA and Beverly Hills, CA. The Cleveland Clinic Dept. of Plastic Surgery's postgraduate aesthetic/breast program includes in-depth exposure to virtually all areas of aesthetic plastic surgery including facial cosmetic, aesthetic breast, body contouring, aesthetic laser surgery, and hair restoration.
