Through the years, public scrutiny and increased federal oversight have made relationships between private corporations and organizations like The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery difficult at best. In response, the Society has worked diligently to create a Partnership Program that is both transparent and open to meet the standards that are being set by regulatory bodies and yet allow for fostering relationships between industry and The Aesthetic Society. We believe that by forming substantive relationships with industry companies who align with our mission of empowering our members to provide the best patient care, each of us can leverage the important work of the other. We each benefit by working together to better serve, and communicate with, the specialty, its practitioners, and patients.
To that end, we are excited to announce The Aesthetic Society has created a real partnership. We have assembled an unprecedented package that allows the Society to foster transparent corporate partnerships to further key initiatives of the Society while adhering to all regulations and maintaining our values.
Development of this new Partnership Program began more than a year ago with an external audit of the Society, evaluating how we can best align with our corporate partners to maximize key relationships for both sides. With the information gathered from this audit, our Program was designed and publicly launched October 15, 2009.
The benefits of unrestricted money
The key element of the “Partnership Program” is that the money received is unrestricted. Such funds are vital because they meet all of the guidelines and codes of ethics for financial support, and most importantly, allow the Society to channel the money to the programs and initiatives that best benefits you, the member, and the patients that you treat.
With unrestricted funds, we are able to maintain control of the future of its programs, be more responsive to the ever-changing landscape of healthcare delivery, and in turn, provide the best resources for our members to respond and be prepared for those changes. With a financial future that is increasingly secure, the Society will be able to ensure that key programs vital to serving our members remain strong.
Defining the Program
There are two levels of support within the “Partnership Program”, the “Premier Partner” and the “Alliance Partner”. The Premier Partner level of support and is limited to no more than eight companies, while the Alliance Partner level is open to just ten.
While you the member, your patients, and the Society are the main benefactors of this program, there is also benefit to the companies that are part of the Industry Partners program. While in the past, the Society offered an a la carte menu of sponsorship opportunities for events and items the annual meeting and other programs, the new Partnership Program provides an organized package that affords the participating companies recognition for their year-long dedication to the specialty. The most visible recognition will be in special “thank-you” notices in the Aesthetic Society News and the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. You will see signage at the annual meeting and links on our website calling attention to companies involved in the new program.
The Society, is not the first medical specialty to launch a comprehensive corporate partnership initiative like the Partnership Program, and has learned that the program can be successful and lead to better financial stability. In the next few weeks, we will be announcing our first Partner and hope to roll out several more announcements in the coming months as we plan and prepare 2010 and beyond.
