The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Makes Its Debut on YouTube with Breast Augmentation Video
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) released the final installments of their three part series titled “ Real People. Real Surgery. Breast Augmentation ” on YouTube on April 28, 2008.
The videos are geared to help patients make an informed decision about plastic surgery and safely achieve a satisfied outcome when considering breast surgery. Over 10.6 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2007, according to ASAPS statistics. Women had 91 percent of cosmetic procedures, and the number one surgical procedure that women underwent was breast augmentation .
The first episode features a real patient talking about her breast enhancement experience. It lists the top five reasons women choose to have breast implants including: to look better in clothes; to have larger breasts; to feel better about themselves; to feel more confident; and to feel less self-conscious. While all three breast augmentation videos address how breast implants can enhance appearance and boost self-image, the videos also suggest that breast augmentation won't necessarily change one's looks to match an "ideal" image. The videos underscore the importance of making fully informed decisions before a woman decides to have surgery, considering carefully her options and evaluating her expectations as well as possible outcomes, and discussing them with her plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
ASAPS is devoted entirely to advancing the field of cosmetic plastic surgery through education and research and produced this video to capture the reality of plastic surgery. There are plans to roll out a series of videos that cover the most popular surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures that consumers consider undergoing. In addition, ASAPS offers consumers the ability to learn more about cosmetic procedures through its website, www.surgery.org , populated with consumer information, a public forum to ask questions to board-certified plastic surgeons, along with a membership directory to find a board-certified plastic surgeon .
