Will breast lift and implant removal be done during the same surgery?

Q:

I'm planning to have my implants removed with a breast lift. My questions are: Will the removal and lift be done during the same surgery? I have Essential Thrombocythemia and am concerned about increased risks during surgery. Should I have my surgery in a hospital instead of surgery center?

A:

There are some surgeons who will do these as 2 different procedures. However, most plastic surgeons experienced in breast surgery will do them at the same time. This is very important because of your Essential Thrombocythemia since you will only have to have preoperative evaluation and any preoperative treatment once. Hospitals, accredited surgery centers and accredited office surgery facilities are all safe. I would, however, have an anesthesiologist care for you during the procedure to increase your safety.
