How prevalent is the use Endotine in lifting the cheeks?


I consulted with a board certified ENT who also does plastic surgery. Concerning Entodine - he told me ," it is the accepted modern way to lift the cheek. The surgeon who is only using sutures is doing a 1990's facelift or talking about a cheek implant". Is this true? I heard that it may be in the body for up to 12 months and that concerns me. Are there potential problems with using such a material as Entodine?



 Yes, Endotine is a biodegradable product. They make several different products ( ). This is one of many ways to lift the malar or cheek area. Many surgeons today have moved onto fat grafting to restore the volume lost with time in the cheek/ temple chin/ etc. areas. Here is a link of some examples ( ). The statement is one person's opinion. The Endotine device does what many use sutures for and does a very good job at lifting the cheek. However, it is not the only way to do a "modern" facelift or lift the cheek. One can do the exact same thing with sutures in the orbicularis with a pinch blepharoplasty (necessary with the Endotine) or through a lower blepharoplasty incision at the time of the facelift. Some newer facelift procedures also lift the cheek as a part of the procedure without any implant. Make sure you like the usual results of which ever surgeon you decide on. The Endotine does stay around for about a year and can, occasionally, be felt during that time. It is the same material of many of the sutures we leave under the skin all the time, so it should not cause any other problems.


Rule of Endotine & Cheeklifts – Endotine has been described for cheeklifts, however, I don’t think it is a very good long-term maneuver to correct the cheeks. Whereas in a “Lift & Fill” facelift it is a natural way to obtain a youthful, rejuvenated appearance when you’re lifting the re-inflated SMAS deep layer and injecting fat in the deep fat compartments.
