Eyelid surgery a popular choice among older patients
November 9, 2010

With people living longer than ever before, many individuals have begun to work well past the typical retirement age. Due to a growing pressure to stay competitive with young coworkers, many older adults are considering plastic surgery to reduce the signs of aging, The Patriot-News reports.
One of the most popular procedures requested is eyelid surgery, which removes excess skin to provide a more youthful appearance. Diane Colvin, 64, got the surgery along with a face lift and liposuction under her chin when she was 58.
"I just feel better because I look better and I feel younger," Colvin told the news source. "I guess I feel like I’m at the point where I can treat myself, and so I do. Just like I exercise and eat healthy, I want to do what I can to look as good as I can for my age."
Along with surgery, non-invasive treatments such as facial fillers and Botox injections are also on the rise among women. Rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and facelifts are the top three procedures for older men.
According to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), about 7 percent of the 12.5 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2009 were on patients 65-years-old or older.
The mission of the Aesthetic Society includes medical education, public education and patient advocacy.
