Founding Member's Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

50 years ago, we were privileged to be among a group of 18 fellow surgeons who helped lay the groundwork for what would become the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). It all began with some notes scribbled onto cocktail napkins at Harry’s Bar in Venice, Italy, and those ideas would form the basis for an organization which is now 2,200 strong. At the time, aesthetic plastic surgery was frowned upon by some in the medical field and our group realized that, by forming a society with a focus on education, we could help fellow surgeons learn the vital skills necessary to practice the profession we love, allowing us to provide the utmost in patient safety and satisfaction. Today, that founding promise of educational excellence has become The Aesthetic Society’s ongoing legacy: delivering exceptional education through our annual Aesthetic Meeting, as well as through Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Aesthetic Society News, RADAR Resource, and our various symposia. We hope you’ll join us at The Aesthetic Meeting 2017 in San Diego, CA, as we’ll be recreating Harry’s Bar as part of the Presidential Welcome Celebration, and we look forward to reminiscing with old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing tales from our storied history. Please make plans to attend April 27–May 2 at the San Diego Convention Center.

We have much to celebrate.
