How many days do I have to avoid sun light after laser acne surgery??

Q:

Going to have acne laser surgery done..

A:

Depending of the depth of the laser ablation you should consider avoiding sun exposure for at least 6 to 8 weeks following your procedure. Please address your concerns with your provider. I hope they are a member of the ASAPS. Best,

Gary R Culbertson, MD, FACS

A:

Sunlight Avoidance After Laser Surgery – In general, after laser skin resurfacing one should avoid direct sunlight for at least a year and obviously use SPF 15 or greater sunscreen. It goes without saying that one should avoid the sun and especially tanning beds to prevent increased chance of skin cancer and aging of the skin.
