Is there any way to fix the shape of a damaged nail?

Q:

My ring finger was caught in a door when I was a child and detached from my finger. It grows unusually shaped and in a distorted direction. Is there any way to fix the shape of the nail to grow upwards and straight instead of downwards and sideways.

A:

Yes,

The hooked nail or parrots beak nail can be improved. You most likely will require x-rays and an examination to see if a restorative procedure would be of any benefit.

Best,
