Q:

I live in Istanbul, Turkey. I had soft tissue filler injections (Juvederm) 18 days ago. I had a serious allergic reaction to the filling product. There are two red lines through the "marionette" area and two dark spots around the "nasolabial" line. The dermatologists here told me that iit's called "postinflammatory hyperpigmentation" and they claim it is permanent. Are you familiar with these spot and line reactions after these injections and do you believe they will be permanent? Isn't there something I can do to correct this? I urgently need your help and advice in this situation.

Thank you.

A:

Eighteen (18) days post Juvederm injection is too early for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

In cases like yours, the Juvederm should be dissolved by injecting the entire area of the nasolabial fold (low dose steroid injections) until all of the Juvederm is dissolved.  At the same time start a regimen of broad spectrum antibiotics for two weeks.  A topical steroid cream can also be applied.  Good luck.
