Surgical Facility

The Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center is a full service plastic surgery facility and is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. Modern advancements in anesthesia, surgical technique and out-patient delivery of care have significantly reduced the risk of cosmetic surgery.

At the Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center, anesthesia services are performed by Integra Anesthesia Associates. Our Director of Anesthesia Services is Mr. Tony Pemerton, CRNA, who along with colleague Mr. Robert Snow, CRNA, have collectively over twenty-five years of anesthesia experience. On the day of surgery, these Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) will be delivering anesthesia medication to and monitoring our surgical patients.

Patients undergoing procedures at the Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center will have either Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) or General Anesthesia. Minor procedures can be performed under local anesthesia administered by the plastic surgeon and do not necessitate anesthesia.

MAC anesthesia is delivered intravenously to make the patient drowsy while the local anesthesia is injected. During the patient's procedure the local anesthesia will keep the patient free of pain at the surgical site, and the sedation will prevent anxiety. The patient's vital signs will be monitored and supplemental oxygen delivered. Some of the advantages of MAC anesthesia are less nausea and a shorter stay in the recovery room.

General anesthesia is performed using intravenous medications to achieve the proper depth of anesthesia and analgesia. With this method the patient's level of anesthesia is deep enough to block both pain and awareness. During this process, the patient's vital signs, blood oxygen levels and expired carbon dioxide levels are meticulously monitored.

Following surgery the patient is transported to the recovery room and closely monitored by the nursing staff until he/she can be safely discharged home. The length of time in this area of the Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center depends upon the length of the surgery and the type of anesthetic. However, most patients can expect to recover in about one hour.

Payment Options

If your surgery is either reconstructive or deemed medically necessary, it may be covered by insurance. When surgery is recommended by Dr. Wetherington, a letter of prior authorization will be sent to your insurance company, and approval must be obtained before surgery can be scheduled. A copy of your insurance card will be made at your initial office visit, and it is important to keep the office informed of any changes to your insurance.

A patient considering cosmetic surgery will meet with a staff member during her/his initial consultation and discuss both the cost of surgery and scheduling. Cosmetic consultations are complimentary.

Any co-payments are due at the time of your initial office visit, and all surgical fees and deductibles are collected at your preoperative visit, which is usually one week prior to your surgery. Care Credit patient financing (www.Carecredit.com) is available, and information about this service is available in our offices. We also accept cash, personal checks and Visa.

Healthy skin has an enormous impact on overall appearance and self-confidence. When speaking of skin care, the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" definitely holds true. Five basic and inexpensive lifestyle choices that promote good skin health include dedicated protection from the sun, gentle cleansing, a healthy diet, stress management and not smoking.

At the Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center our skin care services are focused on helping the patient achieve her maximum potential for healthy, vibrant skin. We employ well-known, quality product lines which allow the patient to achieve maximum results. Our skin care specialist, Robbie Ann Baker, is well-trained on the use of our products, is a licensed cosmotologist and has worked with Dr. Wetherington and his patients for over twenty years. She is trained in color analysis, application of cosmetics, camouflage makeup, DermaCulture®, facials, MD Forte® and the entire line of products from Obagi® and ColoreScience®.

Skin care at the Wetherington Plastic Surgery Center is a team effort. The visit begins with a thorough evaluation by Mrs. Baker. During this process questions may arise regarding either medical issues or about specific findings on the skin. Dr. Wetherington is available to render a complimentary examination and recommend treatment if necessary. Mrs. Baker is available after the purchase of products and services to answer questions, monitor progress and fine tune results.
