First husbands and wives, now mom and daughters go under the knife
November 1, 2012
We recently brought you an article about the trend of "couples surgery," when husbands and wives decide to get a little nip and tuck together. But perhaps there's a new type of couple that enjoys going under the knife together - mother and daughter. ABC tells the story of one such pair who underwent plastic surgery in Los Angeles.
Lynda and Stefanie are close, and often go enjoy adventure travel together. But their latest exciting activity didn't involve much travel, though 68-year-old Lynda did fly from her home in Montreal to be with her 38-year-old daughter for their procedures.
"I thought this would be a nice thing for us to do together because we could be a support system," Stefanie told the news source. "We [could] have a good three or four days together to vegetate and relax."
"The patients who start with a supportive relationship, they really help each other and I welcome that," the LA-based surgeon who performed the procedure told the news source.
Both mom and daughter were pleased with the results of their surgery seven weeks later. Stefanie told the news source that she notices the difference in her stomach and bust, and Lynda says she's thrilled to be able to wear accessories on her neck once again.
Both women are in prime age categories for cosmetic procedures, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Last year, there were nearly four million people between the ages of 35 and 60 who underwent a cosmetic procedure - 43 percent of the total. Those over 65 and older accounted for 8 percent of the total number of procedures performed by ASAPS doctors in the U.S.
Women who are considering going under the knife should be sure that they are have all the facts, and aren't making the decision to undergo surgery simply because a friend or family member is doing the same. It's essential that every patient have an individual consultation with the physician who will be performing the surgery, and that they understand what sort of results they can expect.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), is recognized as the world’s leading organization devoted entirely to aesthetic plastic surgery and cosmetic medicine of the face and body. ASAPS is comprised of over 2,600 Plastic Surgeons; active members are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (USA) or by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have extensive training in the complete spectrum of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. International active members are certified by equivalent boards of their respective countries. All members worldwide adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and must meet stringent membership requirements.
