Surgeon facing lawsuit for raising legitimate questions
November 11, 2010
A UK plastic surgeon expressed doubt in a newspaper article as to whether Rodial Limited's Boob Job cream can be as effective as the company claims, and now she is facing a libel lawsuit from the company, reports The Guardian.
The doctor’s concern stems from the fact that the cream's manufacturer has not released any details from the studies they claim to have performed. She says that it is not a matter of whether or not it will take business away from her, but instead is a matter of safety for patients.
"It is my duty to speak out when products making these claims are not backed up by evidence," Dr. Dalia Nield told the news source. "The safety and health of people could
be at risk if I cannot do this."
Lawyers for the doctor believe that the company has no case because Nield was simply expressing her opinion on the product as a well-known expert on breast surgery.
This case underlies the importance of receiving medical advice and treatment only from physicians who are qualified to perform cosmetic procedures.
