This 1 year fellowship beginning in July emphasizes all facets of aesthetic plastic surgery within a private practice in Laguna Beach. The experience entails broad operative experience in aesthetic breast surgery (including many secondary procedures), facial aesthetics, and body contouring, but also encompasses laser treatments, botox injections, fillers, and peels.  The total number of operative aesthetic cases is approximately 550 a year.  During the training, the fellow will participate in several projects requiring publication and/or presentation.  In addition to the operative and research aspects, the fellow will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of running a busy private practice complete with a surgery center and medical spa. Fellows may be given the opportunity to operate independently.

A California medical license is required. This is a salaried position. In addition, additional funding for the year can be obtained through various industry supported grants as well as other aesthetic surgery-related opportunities. The University of Southern California, Marina Plastic Surgery and Rox Center have come together to offer a unique aesthetic surgery fellowship.  Drs. Grant Stevens,  Jay Calvert, and. Mark Urata have structured an aesthetic surgery fellowship that covers the full spectrum of aesthetic plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine.  The fellowship is a 12 month commitment, in which 2 fellows per year will be selected  to spend six-month blocks of time at Marina Plastic Surgery and the Rox Center.

At Marina Plastic Surgery, in Marina del Rey, the fellows will work with Drs. Grant Stevens, Michelle Spring, and Luis H. Macias focusing on breast surgery, body contouring and facial aesthetics.  They will also participate in a very high volume medical day spa with aestheticians and physician assistants in advanced injectables, including fillers and neuromodulators. Additionally, the fellow will become familiar with the latest non-ablative skin treatments and energy based non-invasive body contouring.  At the Rox Center, in Beverly Hills, the fellows experience a high volume of rhinoplasty and complex nasal reconstruction with Drs. Rollin Daniel and Jay Calvert, and facial aesthetic, breast and body contouring with Drs. Andrew Ordon and Ritu Chopra.  There is also an occuloplastic surgery experience available with Dr. Kami Parsa.

Clinical research on aesthetic surgery topics results in multiple publications and presentations each year. Also, there is the opportunity to perform your own “Fellow Cases” and will have full admitting privileges.  These fellow cases are patients that you alone see from consult through the post-operative period. You will learn more than just surgery at this busy private practice fellowship. Ask our previous successful fellows.

This fellowship is unique in that it comes with a junior faculty appointment, which allows the fellow to admit patients to the hospital and to operate independently when qualified.  The fellow is exposed to all of the broad aspects of aesthetic plastic surgery and is encouraged and helped to contribute to our literature.  There is ample opportunity for teaching of medical students and residents.

This is a multidisciplinary fellowship.

Experiences provided in cosmetic plastic surgery of the head and neck, breast and abdomen with both classic liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction and laser experience when indicated. Trainees participate in the academic activities at the Lenox Hill Hospital program and are encourages to attend both regional and national plastic surgery meetings. Mmalpractice and health insurance are provided. Salary is $55,000 pa, no accommodation is provided. Our two Fellows each average 100-120 personal cosmetic surgery cases , all under the direct tutelage of one of the 45 Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. All patients are Cosmetic with approximately half facial, eyelid and nasal plastic. Intake clinics are conducted as a private office and 100+ filler and Botox experiences each Fellow offered. The Fellows are sent [ their choice] to a national meeting at our expense. Academic participation is offered at the Lenox Hill conferences and journal clubs.
